Should I try to get my ex boyfriend back?

I went out with this guy for about five months, I liked him for over two years before we went out. Anyway I broke up with him in January for a different guy. We got into a few big fights toward the end of the year and he said a bunch of mean stuff about me how he didn’t need me, i was annoying and so on. We didn’t talk all summer, I missed him a lot but was also very mad and was pretty sure he hated me. Today my best friend (and his go friend) was talking to him and said she was waiting for me. He said that he saw me in the hall and was going to say hi but thought I prob wouldn’t say it back so he didn’t say anything. And he also said that he didn’t hate me. I had basically accepted that he hated me but now that he doesn’t I don’t know what to do because I miss him a lot, I really like(d) him, and now maybe we could work things out? What do you think I should do because I would really like to make it work haha but don’t know if we can or what. Should I just try talking to him? Any advice helps thanks.

We broke up about two weeks ago right after my daughter was born. we have been going through problems through out my pregnancy which I have to admit had a lot to do with my hormonal changes.
